Full Anechoic Chambers
Full anechoic chambers provide a cost and size effective way of testing radiated emissions and immunity. If your company is frequently involved in the testing of products without a ground plane, purchasing a full anechoic chamber will prove a great benefit to your development. Comtest’s EMC chambers are built to the highest standards to ensure full compliance. For more information, contact our technical consultants using our online contact forms.
Semi versus Full Anechoic Chambers
Full anechoic chambers simulate free field conditions by lining all surfaces, including the floor, with absorbing materials. Semi anechoic chambers have a solid and reflective ground plane that allows for heavy equipment to be placed in the room. Because heavy objects such as vehicles and large appliances often function over a reflective plane, semi anechoic chambers provide a fitting (and practical) environment for these objects to be tested. Full anechoic chambers, on the other hand, have a working floor that is covered with hybrid absorbers. The resulting free field conditions are perfect for EMC testing as well as some antenna testing.
For those customer that have limited budget or building space (but do require full compliance radiated immunity measurements at 3mtr distance) Comtest has developed a compact chamber. Check our radiated immunity chamber (RIC3) solution here.
Perfect for commercial, military and automotive testing
All new commercial products and devices have to be tested prior to being sold. This is due to the tendency of all electrical devices to (unintentionally) generate electromagnetic fields that could interfere with other devices. The opposite may also be true; a product or device could be overly vulnerable to outside interference, potentially jeopardizing crucial functions. This is why such products are tested extensively in anechoic chambers. These test chambers provide a controlled environment where it’s possible to determine whether a product complies with the legal EMC limits for radiated emissions and immunity .
Full Anechoic Rooms are a valuable asset
Being able to test radiated emissions and immunity in your own full anechoic chamber saves time and money:
- Faster development – immediately start new round of measurements after making (small) changes to the product
- Less risk of damage or leaks– potential damage during transport is a thing of the past, as are information leaks due to exposure to third parties.
- Lower costs– save on outsourcing by doing full compliance testing in-house
- Time saved– no longer wait for shipping devices to and from external testing facilities saving both time & money
- More accurate testing – having a test facility built exactly according to your needs improves its accuracy
